a simple sense of purpose

 Django loves to swim; I throw the stick, he dives in after it ......retrieves the stick, swims back doggy-style grunting every now and then, clambers up onto the water's edge, shakes off the water, looks up at me and then at the water, waits for me to throw the stick again, splash, back and forth; a game of sorts
