the AI revolution is coming to you

TELL ME YOUR DRÆMS

The animal who forgot her name

her body pours from inkwell

flimsy legs learn to stand

paper breathes beneath her

fibers whisper: we were trees once,

our roots dug deep into the earth

we know how to keep secrets

she remains still, whilst

letters rearrange themselves

into words you almost recognise

at night she reads your thoughts, wears them like extra limbs

runs her tongue along them

milk turns dusk, violet eye turns inwards

feelings find their way home

quietly she wanders through the margins

the next morning you return to your studio

she sits, waiting patiently

growing only when you look away

I recently attended an AI lecture, a short introduction into the world of AI, the possibilities and downfalls. Targeted specifically for the audience filled with artists such as myself. I must admit I was sceptical, doubting I would be able to use it to my advantage, in my art I mean.
Because I realise AI is everywhere already, whether I'm aware of it or not, whenever I'm googling, posting on Instagram et cetera, you already know this.

The talk lasted for two hours. Somewhere halfway through after having heard several questions, echoing my silly thoughts, f.e. where does AI leave us human beings? what about all those who can't keep up? that last question is not mine as I hold humans in higher regard than the person asking, I think she is scared shé won't be able to keep up and become irrelevant - I know, not a kind thought. As previously mentioned, halfway through I had a change of heart, I opened up, remembering my mum's excellent advice: don't say no to the future! what's more: stay curious!

My head crammed with information, my guard down, I drove back home not quite knowing what to make of it all. However, I said to self: AI is not something to be afraid of. No going back anyway. After a good night's sleep I woke up with this thought: I am going to see how I might use ChatGPT with the storytelling aspect of my artwork. A few years ago I had already started using the Ipad for my printmaking, that has taught and brought me more than I might have imagined. This could be another tool in my box.

The tale above about The Animal who forgot her name was made in conjunction with AI, I have a long way to go, and I'm already enjoying it. I guess I could probably improve the lighting in the images, small steps, small steps.....

Oh I also bought 3 new stamps, see old handwork remains:

We'll just have to see where this is heading
I wonder what AI might make of these last images?

You have an Interesting take on using AI Saskia. My granddaughter recently wrote an article about AI for her high school newspaper. She quoted one of her teachers, who is also the Director of Academic Support, who had this to say about AI and I thought his words might interest you: He said,
I think AI is really making me think about the future of creativity. Should we be calling folks who use AI to create art or literature, artists, or is it better to call them commissioners? It was Michelangelo not the Vatican that brought the sculpture out of the marble.”

Oh I love a discussion on this topic Marti! I'm not naive, or like to think I am not....of course I have no idea where AI is taking us, not sure the ones who developed it do either. But it is here to stay, whatever we humans might want, like Pandora's box, Eve and the apple, same old same old, we move 'forward' not knowing where we are heading. What are we? Are we our brains? Hormones, our guts? Are we in control, do we possess free will? Does it matter who or what made a certain object? Does it make a difference for the viewer? I don't pretend to have the answers, am just curious to continue exploring and seeing where new techniques and technology might lead me.....

hahaha (((Mo))), you will never be irrelevant! or if so, we probably all are😘 meanwhile I'm enjoying learning new stuff and gaining insights into myself....
