another dream come true

from the rough removable baste to an almost complete kantha-ed cloth, from a stark nearly complete tree to who knows where?


i very much like the not-so-complete tree on the back
am sewing mainly in the evenings, have a second part-time job in my favourite bookshop de mandarijn, started yesterday..... am very excited.....

I did say on your last post how much I love the stitchng on this piece but I guess I didn't press send or something. Its a beautiful piece, I never would have thought of adding the rusty side but it works so well.

I must reply promptly, otherwise I won't get round to doing it at all: so here goes Debbie, the rusty bit was indeed a ? mark for me as well, but then I thought 'what the hell, if it doesn't work, I'll just undo' and so I did....one of the reasons for visiting other people's blogs and sites is to see how things could be done differently, I am constantly challenged/inspired to view my work in a different light and thereby hopefully learn, improve and continue to evolve as an artist

saw your piece on facebook and just love it. ...and working in a book store...how wonderful. i worked in the main library for some years part time and just loved being around all those books.

I rather love it all, including the tree on the back! And...and...and...you get to work in a bookstore!!! Oh lucky you! It is a longing of mine to be surrounded with that many books!

This is so unique Saskia, the hint of the tree in the back, makes you want to hold the cloth and let it take you into the mystery that it suggests...

Plus anyone who creates a wondrous Christmas tree from creatively stacking books, well then, they certainly belong in a book store. What a fine way to begin this new year. One of the ways that I paid for my college, besides scholarships, was by working in the college bookstore...very special times, especially when I got to get away from the cash register and go and stack books for each department. On my breaks, you could always find me sitting on the floor reading books from the English and journalism departments.

an excellent way to kick off the new year Marti, I like knowing that you (and Julie) worked in a bookstore as well, some of us just love books and everything to do with the printed word

thanks Michelle, the kantha is amazing if I say so myself, I'm always a little taken aback once a piece nears completion, accompanied by a sense of satisfaction and gratitude that such simple stitching does produce serene beauty, to be a part of just that.....

Happy news ... One can never have too many books, nor ever too much time amidst them.
And dare I say the b-side tree looks like it is gesturing ... reaching out, running even. In stitch, anything's possible.
