'memory is like a river'

Just as I was about to take a photograph of the kestrel sitting atop the street lamppost across the road, she decided I had been lingering too long for comfort, off she flew. She has used this vantage point for a number of years, although I cannot recall how many, three, four maybe five years, even longer perhaps. This Summer however she stayed away and I worried she might not come back. I worried too soon for there she is. Once the corn was harvested and the fields tilled she had a clear view of all the critters she might want to catch. Her presence brings me joy.
I continue to fill my sketch books with new images and rework older ones I'm not quite satisfied with. A couple of stamps & a few words can make all the difference and the images gather new meaning. All in all they are a lot of fun in the making.
In some cases I cut out the inky animals and glue them in the books, adding all sorts and trying to just get going without being afraid of 'losing' a critter once I start snipping with my scissors. Scrolling through the notebooks takes me back in time, memories jostle and tumble.

Today's blogpost title is a quote I have used without asking either one for permission, guessing it will be okay; it's Jude's comment in Grace's post "practice" 04/09/2024
I was once again reading through Grace's posts as one does, sort of catching up and also remembering things about her, her life, her family members and others 'over there' and self. How discussions and insights may unfold through the comments.

The elephant (an old puzzle piece, cannot for the life of me remember where I found him) wrapped in black&white thread is inspired by or more precisely copied from such a thread-keeper in Jude's substack post Use-full-ness. The thread itself was a gift from Jude! I have used some of it on a cape for OBK.

oh Dee, thank you, thank you, really appreciate your kind words! am reading Miranda Hart's "I haven't been completely honest with you" - which btw is tremendously funny & moving - and one thing she mentions that is important to us human beings is experiencing joy, so when you mention how the critters make you smile, means something here in my studio Ăs working, resonating even!

Saskia~ OH, Ho, MY!! What a wonderful parade of work that comes from your magic and creativity and heart. Old Bird Kings page grabbed me with love for him and the mouse-bird w/ face and sun in the sky invites pondering. I could look at your work space for hours...and to have a whole book of you in ones hands - oh the stories one could tell. I'm so glad you shared here.

finally, at long last [Dee made it happen too!] ...... there seems to be a real opportunity for making an Actual Book: a friend close by has a lot of book-making-lay-out-etc-know-how, so it has evolved from hope - } to chance - } to possibility......of course I will keep you updated!
