birds books art dog food fields

sketch in hand

Almost 33 years ago I bumped into a guy in a bar towards closing time, we were both slightly intoxicated and one thing led to another.......we've been happily married for 28 of those 33 years, are the proud parents of two sons, who've flown the coop and currently share a home with 3 dogs! I soon realised I'd met a man with a passion: hunting and outdoor life. He's a farmer's son and since his mother passed away a few years ago (his dad died many years before) and the land was divided between the siblings, we became landowners. He had always been involved in the affairs of the land, and knows every inch of these fields and grienden (willow plots) like the back of his hand. Sunday afternoon we went to inspect the wild flower meadows and rows of broad beans. I love the light in the air these late September days....

our harvest at the dinner table:

Another love of mine is reading (and collecting) books, I've recently started Dee Mallon's 'The Weight of Cloth' and have to admit I LOVE it! It's a proper page-turner! I am a huge fan of her blog and have admired her writing for many years now. Thanks to this novel I am learning so much about American slave life, the details are horrifying. Alas, I'm not surprised by our capacity for cruelty, our daily news is rife with war stories. However, the extent to which the everyday minds of 'whites' was infected by the normalcy of what is clearly not so, is maddening, stomach-turning and I realise how this manner of systemic racism lingers on till today. It is heart breaking. I was hooked from page one and continue to read well into the night.....READ THIS BOOK!

Below several other recent reads: Eleanor PerĂ©nyi's Green Thoughts hilarious, witty and highly entertaining and Miranda July's All Fours, containing some of the best written sex scenes, ever!

no explanation required I'm guessing....not sure if I have time to turn this one into a print

several Clay BirdBeings, am never really satisfied with my clay results, but I do like how these have evolved, they will probably be for sale during WaardArt weekend; still have want to make some boxes and blankets for them....

Calling my book a “page turner” is high praise. Thank you! Your clay figures remind me of how continually you reinvent yourself as an artist. Truly impressive.

Me too on the two boys who’ve flown the coop, though K and I share our house with only one dog!

after all the years being kept busy by family members, it takes some readjusting to staying busy purely for oneself, but once we do: we soar! Your novel is delicious Dee, I'm savouring the read and continue into the wee hours until my eyes simply cannot focus anymore.....something to look forward to every evening

Saskia~ Those first photos of the land...Paintings, they are!! How absolutely lovely. Your art, in whatever form, never ceases to delight me. The clay figures are so interesting. Do you fire them or are they self drying? And dear Snoopy, posing like the handsome boy he is. It seems like you are 'filling the time' quite well these days. My story, somewhat different, but landing in a similar place...an adult home, which I love.

Nancy, the clay is porcelain clay and has been fired but left unglazed; I am very busy these days with all kinds of activities, sort of feels like a new phase although I'm not quite sure what to call it....I'm getting to know new people, new friendships are evolving, Snoop and me are having loads of fun together, in short I'm enjoying life
