travel

My auntie trying to get a good look at a photograph by Sophie Calle in Louisiana museum*; the artist displays this series with a felt curtain on which words are stitched, they refer to the image behind, we the viewers are encouraged to lift the felt and look at the image below, sometimes the lighting was so bad, the reflection made it almost impossible to see the photograph, hence my auntie's stance....I really liked S.C.'s work, this series in particular as it got us visitors talking to each other: have you seen this one? and over there, that's a really interesting one, and so on.....
I was in Hellerup at the beginning of September, to visit and stay with family. Last time we saw each other was two years ago, time flies.
As mentioned in the previous post, I have started to travel alone by train and this time ended up stranded in Hamburg on my trip to Copenhagen. I treated self to a grand hotel with swimming pool and had rather an extravagant stay, wining and dining in the hotel bistro and, of course, a morning dip in the pool. So far my journey to-and-from Copenhagen has been in part reimbursed due to the many hours delay, oh the joys of train travel.

typical Danish window the Danes love so much, with a geranium Ordrupgaard Museum*

We went swimming every morning, after the short bike-ride from my cousin's house to the Viking club. My 86 year old aunt has been a member for like forever, and her daughter, my cousin hmmm, I'm not quite sure but must be at least 10 years.....the weather looks colder than it was, although the water wás colder than I was used to at home: 18.7 Celsius!
However, membership comes with benefits: afterwards we sat in the small club sauna with windows, so it has a view of the sea we just swam in. It gets even better, once dressed we enjoy coffee in a tiny beach café, again with a view to the Sound of Øresund.
The entire trip was a whirlwind of delights as my cousin had thought of so many things to do I had no time to be bored, nor did I have to make any decision/cook/grocery shopping/cleaning, what a treat!

goodbye Denmark

Meanwhile back home, I read, swim each morning, bake, garden, visit friends, walk the dog together with the husband & work in my studio.

The studio work consists mainly of filling two Moleskine sketchbooks I bought in Cologne, this is a video I made of the A5 size one, it's not full yet; I'm discovering the joys of reworking a piece/page I'm not quite happy about - for whatever reason - it's a slow process, I seem to have found the patience to do just that these days.
Most works are a combination of painting, drawing with conté, colour pencils and collage

not a bad life
