nightingales, dogs and continuing

OBK was muttering about the draughts in his bedroom. At his request there is no door. However he doesn't much appreciate being cold either. A simple solution was found in the shape of a Jude-cloth. I have added a backing to give it extra padding and this weight of cloth offers more warmth to OBK's room. On the room facing side I have stitched a Nightingale plus several flowers/stars. I was inspired by Sam Lee's The Nightingale. Notes on a songbird.** I never knew there was so much to know about such a small bird! May his songs offer sweet dreams in the long nights to come.....
The Dwelling's refurbishment has turned into a slow, long-winded process. I began thinking it would all settle much faster now that 'all I had to do' was move the old stuff back in. Of course things never go according to plan, well not in my life anyway.
M. the carpenter-friend who'd built the alcove for me commented: 'why the rush? you have all the time in the world to redecorate the Dwelling'.
Yes, I do, I now realise, and I'm thoroughly enjoying taking my time. Is it an age thingy? Perhaps I feel nothing really matters, in the sense that there is no end-game, other than death. Might as well enjoy the ride.

The bathroom (for now door-less as well, privacy is not an issue it would seem) has become almost completely black. This time I found inspiration in the essay In praise of Shadows by Jun'ichiro Tanizaki. In contrast to the westerner's love of light, it would appear darkness and shadows are embraced in Japanese architecture. Especially fascinating is the description of the descent along a corridor at the end of which one enters the outbuilding where we finally find the toilet. (reminding me of Dante's descent into the Underworld) The author waxes lyrical about this traditional Japanese toilet, suggesting it is a place of spiritual repose.
Yes, I concur shit Ăs regeneration, the old Egyptians and their sacred scarabs point in the same direction, as do the many dung beetles I've encountered over these past couple of years, scuttling away as I stepped over Snoopy's poo in the garden.

I have added extra walls in an effort to create the illusion of ever increasing space and even more rooms

In the studio one-eyed Barbie is knitting woolen blankets for every one, and I mean every critter in the building! There's no stopping her enthusiasm.....

Snoopy keeps cropping up....here he is together with Django in the tall grasses as seen through the new window in the dining room

I miss him

DutchBoy making himself useful in the kitchen: washing-up, brewing coffee, serving donuts and Danish pastries, around the clock by the looks of him. I 'm not really sure as I spend my nights in my own bed and I have no idea what they're up to when I'm away.

new bookshelves in the library/study, yep now all we have to do is buy more books to fill the shelves, or maybe write and publish our own

The main entrance now has a proper mailbox, so if you are so inclined you can send anything you wish to to The Dwelling, c.o. Saskia in Vogelswerf, The Netherlands and I will make sure each letter and every item is delivered!

don't know why but I have this sudden urge to make these small futon like pillows with old patchwork bits, bits that once belonged to a table cloth, then were destined for a Summer dress, only to find themselves uncut and reconfigured into becoming something like these two....they are deliciously tactile objects that might become part of a project of mine that is set for April 2026, more on that later...

now that I am a dog-less person I go for walks on my own, or accompany my husband when he and Viggo go for their river stretch at midday
me Snoopy-less, no tugging on the leash, nor the running off, the refusing to listen to my whistle, what I wouldn't give to hear his paws tap-tapping on the path as he comes running after me, always, always happy to see me
